What’s Hot ?

👍 Well well… as we heat up so does produce. Artichoke and Aubergine are perfect for making creamy dips for summer flatbreads, Beetroot makes an excellent addition to brighten up salads and add a bit of flair.

👍 Beans and Peas are also great this time of year to making a great alternative to leaf based salads Broad Beans, French Beans, Mangetout, Peas and Runner Beans are brilliant this time of year. Courgettes, Cucumbers and Carrots are also premium this time of year.

👍 All Lettuce, Rocket, Watercress and Salad leaves shine this time of year for those lighter summer dishes. Some root vegetables are ripe too – Marrow, Turnips, Onions, Spring Onion and Potatoes are for sunshine plates. Then to add a bit more colour Tomatoes, Sweetcorn and Radish will give you a vibrant touch.

👍 If your bored of traditional Leaf/Lettuce based salads, Herb salads pack huge flavour and remind you of holidays near the Red Sea. Basil, Chives, Coriander, Oregano, Mint, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Sorrel, Tarragon and Thyme all lovely this time of year and make fantastic herb marinades for the BBQ.

👍 Fruit really becomes sweet after soaking up that lovely sun, Bilberries, Blueberries, Loganberries, Raspberries, Redcurrents and British Strawberries are all at their best. Our great sweet treats come from the orchards Plums, Peaches, Nectarines, Cherries, Figs, Damsons and my Mum’s favourite and one for the old school – Greengages.

What’s Not?

👎 Wild Rhubarb doesn’t like the heat, so is out of season.

What’s Hot?

👍 Lamb is at its sweetest, Pigeon nice and plump from spring berries and nuts and Rabbit perfect for summer Paella’s.

👍 Summer wouldn’t be summer without a little fishy on our dishy. Flat fish’s emerge from the deep and on to our plates – Dab, Dover Sole, Plaice, Halibut and Lemon Sole.

👍 For outdoor fire dining oily fish like Sea Bass, Sardines, Sea Bream, Pilchards, Sea Trout and Mackerel compliment those hot coals making amazing aromas. Another great fish to kebab Monkfish gives people another interesting option for BBQ’s.

👍 Shellfish is spectacular this time of year Scallops, Shrimps, Prawns and Langoustine. Over great summer fish’s squid for Calamari and for memories of walks along the promenade Whelks are back.

What’s Not?

👎 Cod is great this time of year but be warned – new fishing quotes will be put in place soon so you may see sharp price rises in this fish. Great alternatives in Coley, Haddock and Pollack.
