What’s Hot ?
👍 Veg is bursting out the ground like zombie apocalypse – Artichoke, Aubergine, Beetroot, Broccoli, Butternut Squash, Carrots, Celeriac, Celery, Chillies, Courgettes, Cucumber, Fennel, French Beans, Garlic, Horseradish, Kale, Kohlrabi, Leeks, Lettuce & Salad Leaves, Mangetout, Marrow, Onions, Pak Choi, Peppers.
👍 Damson are at their ripest and pears are back just in time for poaching. We also see a lot of produce from our orchards with Figs, Nectarines, Peaches and Plums come into season.
👍 As the nights get longer we see our thorn based fruit service from the depths giving us lovely Raspberries, Blackberries, Redcurrants all great for Baking to Great British Bake Off.
👍 Nuts start to flourish in autumn with Chestnuts and Cob Nuts.
👍 Herbs are at their best with Chives, Coriander, Oregano, Mint, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Sorrel and Thyme all back for roast dinners.
What’s Not?
👎 Broad Beans are out of season, so is Samphire. Additionally, Strawberries, Blueberries and Tomatoes are out.
👎 Cauliflower and Broccoli still facing issues due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
Meat & Seafood
What’s Hot?
👍 Meat is at its best after summer grazing giving it a more intense and sweeter taste – Beef, Lamb, Venison and Turkey.
👍The glorious 12th has just been which means we now have plentiful game – Duck, Grouse, Guinea Fowl, Mallard, Pheasant and Wood Pigeon are all back on the menu.
👍 Fish too is plentiful Clams, Coley, Crab, Dab, Dover Sole, Grey and Red Mullet, Haddock, Halibut, Hake, Herring, Lemon Sole, Plaice, Pilchard, (one of my favourites) Mackerel, Monkfish, Pollack, Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Turbot, Squid.
👍 Crustaceans are good too – Clams, Mussels, Oysters, Whelks, Winkles.
What’s Not?
👎 Word of warning very strict EU fishing quotes are coming into practice so Cod and Haddock will get very pricey.
